Dance World, USA is under the direction of Yancy Lamb, who is celebrating his 30-Year anniversary in ballroom dancing. Mr. Lamb started his dance career in Huntsville, Alabama in 1978 with the Arthur Murray studios and for the past 22 years in Houston, TX—now under the sole propriety of Dance World, USA. Mr. Lamb is a professional dance competition champion and also shares the spotlight with many of his students who wish to take the world's stage in competition dancing. Mr. Lamb won many regional, area and national professional competitions. Winning first place in the World Dance-O-Rama in Acapulco, Mexico was one of Yancy's most prestigious awards. Mr. Lamb was the regional Dance Director for the Arthur Murray Studios for Texas and surrounding states. He has personally taught over 40,000 private lessons and has taught thousands of students and has trained hundreds of teachers throughout his career. Yancy Lamb became not only a certified teacher in all the Bronze, Silver, Gold levels but also earned his certification as an adjudicator at the member level and is affiliated with the National Dance Teachers of America organization.
Now for over 20 years in the same location, Yancy Lamb of Dance World, USA has taught some of the best social dance students in the country. His motto is "Your own personal time is worth something," and when he teaches students they are quick to find out learning to dance is not only fun, but also quick and easy when it is learned the right way, the way that only 30 years experience could offer.
We have found that teaching in a combination of private, group and practice sessions accelerates the progress and gives the student a more “balanced diet” of learning to dance.
During your private lessons, you will receive the specialized and personalized teaching that is necessary to achieve your goals in dancing. If you need special instruction in the technique or style of a dance, your private instructor will spend the time necessary for improvement and will keep an up-to-date record of everything you learn. Have confidence in your instructors. When they know what you want to learn, they will be able to teach you more efficiently.
Group lessons can be an important aid to your private instruction. They give you the opportunity to meet many other students in the studio and acquire dancing habits in supervised practice and instruction lessons. In the group lessons, we stress techniques, styles and variations of patterns. You may be taught material that your teacher hasn’t introduced to you yet, or material that has been introduced that will be reviewed and practiced for improvement. We have group lessons for different dances and standards. Please ask your teacher for the schedule and take advantage of another fine way to help yourself become a more proficient dancer.
We hold scheduled practice party lessons for all of our students. The schedule is posted on our calendars. These “Party Time” lessons are held for students weekly in the main ballroom, and more of a social atmosphere is presented to give you that needed practice for the dance floor. Check the posted calendar of events, or ask your teacher about these practice party sessions.
How Students Are Taught
The method of teaching at Dance World, USA, is on a scholastic basis.
The degrees of dancing achieved are varied. The instruction progresses through: student introductory programs, basic foundation programs and associate and full programs in bronze, silver, gold and gold-supreme standards. From the bronze program up, courses are designed for people desiring more advanced dancing in the social and competition styles.
Your introductory program is the first student level and you will be taught the basic patterns of the most popular dances of today. Your instructor will explain how the medal standards are taught on a semester basis, and will pre-plan a personalized dance program to fulfill your specific needs and desires.
Our instructors are carefully selected and trained to bring you the finest instruction in dancing. Your regular instructor will be your “history teacher” and is responsible for your progress. Periodically, you will have lessons with exchange teachers, which gives practice in adapting to all partners and dance styles.
Clubs & Additional Programs
We have several dance clubs in the studio: Medalist Club, Hobby Club, Cosmopolitan Club and other party clubs that are available from time to time. As you become a more proficient dancer, your teacher may invite you to attend one of the club activities so that you may observe all of the fun and benefits that belonging to these clubs can bring you.
Showcase & Exhibition Award Programs
The showcase and exhibition award programs are designed for students who find exhibition dancing beneficial in expediting their dance progress.
The competition programs enable our students to use their dancing in competition with other students on a local basis or as widespread as the entire country. These events are two- or three-day functions where amateurs compete in their standard of dancing and in their choice of dances.
The competition course is a selected program that requires special dance training to prepare for an exhibition to be given to the student. Personalized choreography is incorporated in a routine of patterns to suit the individual’s abilities and desires and the exhibitions are perfected and polished for entry into the competition.
The weekend is full of activities such as the dance competition, as well as dinners, dances, shows, cocktail parties, etc. The highlight is an awards banquet where trophies are presented.
This is a wonderful way to help you excel in dances you enjoy and would like to improve in as well.
